About the Role

Figma is building its founding Forward Deployed Engineering team to solve complex, real-world challenges in large-scale enterprise environments. As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will embed directly with strategic customers, working across their codebases, design systems, developer environments, and workflows to ensure Figma's products are successful within their unique technical constraints. You will tackle difficult adoption challenges hands-on, including complex frontend stacks, legacy systems, and security requirements, while building trusted partnerships with customers' senior engineering teams. This is a senior/staff-level engineering role focused on writing Figma product code and translating field insights into scalable improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Make an enterprise design system agent-ready for AI tools to generate faithful, on-system code by fixing tokens, naming, and guidelines, wiring up Code Connect, and running evaluations.
  • Ensure Make Local, Code Layers, and new products function in a customer's real environment by writing code, config, agent skills, and guideline files against their systems and Figma's.
  • Conduct technical discovery to understand a customer's dev environment, toolchain, and constraints, then scope the fastest credible path to value and set the customer up for long-term success.
  • Debug complex, unfamiliar integration problems, including git workflows, CI, dev-environment setup, and non-standard stacks.
  • Build LLM-powered workflows, including MCP setup, agent skills, and prompt engineering tuned to each customer's context.
  • Transform one-off solutions into reusable playbooks and product feedback, enabling self-serve patterns or shipped product improvements.
  • Communicate field friction back to Figma's Product and Engineering organizations, influence future product development, and often build those features.
  • Collaborate with customers' senior engineering teams to build trusted partnerships.
  • Take end-to-end ownership and drive solutions independently in ambiguous, evolving problem spaces.
  • Partner cross-functionally with Sales, Customer Experience, Solutions Architecture, and related teams to deliver complex enterprise engagements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience shipping production software end-to-end.
  • Meaningful experience working directly with customers or partner teams.
  • Strong engineering fundamentals and adaptability.
  • Ability to quickly navigate unfamiliar codebases, languages, and technical environments to deliver production-ready solutions.
  • Experience with design systems and design-to-code workflows, including tokens and component libraries, or a demonstrated ability to ramp quickly in this space.
  • Excellent customer-facing communication and technical partnership skills.
  • Ability to build trust with senior engineers and translate customer needs into actionable product and engineering solutions.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript or Python.
  • Hands-on experience integrating APIs and SDKs.
  • Experience troubleshooting toolchains and CI environments.
  • Experience navigating enterprise requirements such as SSO, security reviews, access controls, data residency, and compliance frameworks.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, evolving problem spaces.
  • Strong product mindset with a track record of identifying patterns from customer engagements and translating field learnings into clear, actionable product feedback.
  • Familiarity with developer tools, design-to-code workflows, or AI/LLM products, including tools such as Code Connect, Storybook, Style Dictionary, or comparable technologies.
  • Candidates must keep cameras on during video interviews.
  • Required to attend in-person onboarding if hired.
  • Personal data in application will be processed according to Figma's Candidate Privacy Notice.
