About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teacher to create a warm, supportive, and inclusive environment that empowers young leaders with special needs to thrive. You will work closely with children, particularly in preschool settings, providing individualized support and engaging, adaptive activities tailored to each child’s unique strengths. You will guide students in our specialized program, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) to promote their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and/or small group academic and behavior support interventions for students.
  • Prepare for and participate in IEP meetings of students.
  • Prepare IEP mandated instruction to students with disabilities.
  • Participate in meetings that focus on reviewing data to identify or adjust interventions for students who are not meeting grade level benchmarks.
  • Collaborate closely with Education Coordinator, behavior support staff, and other RS Providers.
  • Collect pre/post assessment data and ongoing progress monitoring data.
  • Communicate regularly with caregivers and provide progress updates.
  • Collaborate in an interdisciplinary planning and teaching team that meets the needs of all students.
  • Implement curriculum and assessments that are aligned to Common Core Learning/NYS Standards.
  • Use data gathered through formative and summative assessments to guide instructional planning.
  • Practice an open-door policy that encourages collaboration and development of best practice pedagogy.
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, including maintaining ongoing communication with parents/guardians.
  • Initiate partnerships and mentoring relations with HeartShare personnel and faculty to enhance school experiences and develop external learning experiences.
  • Maintain regular and open communication with families by providing regular written updates on student progress and creating opportunities for family participation, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Communicate student achievement data with parents and families through TEAMS.
  • Take on duties that support classroom teaching (meeting in departments, implementing school policy, being an active part of school decision-making, communicating with parents throughout the school year to support student achievement, etc.).
  • Participate in emergency interventions, PBIS, and team meetings.
  • Uphold and demonstrate PBIS values in the classroom and school wide.
  • Participate in staff development and school-wide meetings leading up to annual CSE reviews.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, consistent with the scope, responsibilities, and level of the position, and in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational policies.

Requirements

  • N.Y.S. Approved Certification - Students with Disabilities: Internship, Initial or Professional.
  • Master's degree in special education.
  • Behavior Experience - Preferred.
  • Must be currently in their Master's.
  • Must not have been previously employed by the D.O.E. in the past year.
