About the Role

GFT is seeking a Senior Systems Safety Engineer to join our Practice or CBG Team. This role involves leading safety assurance and certification activities for major rail transit projects, serving as a technical authority on safety matters, and providing leadership in hazard management, safety engineering, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead project safety programs and safety assurance activities.
  • Define project safety plans and safety management processes.
  • Lead hazard identification, risk assessments, and hazard management processes.
  • Lead preparation and review of Safety Cases and Safety Assurance Reports.
  • Act as technical lead for safety certification programs.
  • Establish safety requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Interface directly with clients, regulators, assessors, and project stakeholders.
  • Lead contractor safety reviews and acceptance activities.
  • Ensure integration of safety activities with systems engineering, integration, testing, and RAM programs.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership.
  • Support business development and proposal activities.
  • Serve as trusted advisor on safety matters for clients and project teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, or related STEM discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada highly desirable.
  • 15+ years of experience in system safety engineering.
  • Experienced IEC 61508 and/or EN 50126 practitioner.
  • Skilled at dissecting complex stakeholder needs and articulating an assurance case based on reasoned logic and well-rounded judgement.
  • Experience leading the execution of safety management programmes, and supporting Independent Safety Assessments.
  • Working knowledge of RAM principles and RAM analyses.
  • Strong client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.

  • $108,000.00 - $163,000.00
