About the Role
Morgan Stanley Services Group Inc. is seeking a Director, Software Engineering to build and maintain Java Spring Boot services, Python ETL flows, and data quality rules. The role involves maintaining operational data stores and data warehouse schemas, responding to support queries, performing data analysis, and documenting process enhancements. Collaboration with business users, vendors, and IT teams globally is essential, as is participation in the full SDLC and software hygiene tasks.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain Java Spring Boot services, Python ETL flows, and data quality rules based on business requirements.
- Maintain the schemas and contents of operational data stores (ODSs) and data warehouse across DB2 and Snowflake databases.
- Respond to support queries and system or data alerts.
- Perform detailed data analysis to troubleshoot system anomalies.
- Document process enhancements.
- Work closely with business users, external vendors, Morgan Stanley’s central IT teams, and other Investment Management IT teams globally.
- Participate in the SDLC as required by the firm to develop, deploy, and support applications.
- Perform software hygiene tasks to ensure software is properly upgraded and security risks are minimized.
Requirements
- Requires a Master’s degree in Information Systems and Security, Computer Information Systems or a related field.
- Requires three (3) years of experience in the position offered or three (3) years as a Computer Programmer, Software Developer, or a related role.
- Requires three (3) years of experience applying end-to-end backend engineering for enterprise data platforms using Python, Java 8+, and Spring Boot.
- Requires three (3) years of experience utilizing Python knowledge in ETL engineering and data pipeline maintenance for operational and analytical data workflows.
- Requires three (3) years of experience conducting data quality framework development in Python, including validation, reconciliation, and anomaly detection rules.
- Requires three (3) years of experience with relational database skills across DB2, Snowflake, and SQL Server, including schema design, SQL optimization, and data lifecycle management.
- Requires three (3) years of experience with Microservices and API design expertise, including RESTful service development and integration.
- Requires three (3) years of experience with Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) application in distributed enterprise systems.
- Requires three (3) years of experience applying Cross-language data access implementation using Java/Python database connectivity layers.
- Requires three (3) years of experience implementing Cloud platform to modernize data and service architecture.
- Requires three (3) years of experience evaluating production support and incident response capability for system alerts, data issues, and root-cause analysis.
- Requires three (3) years of experience applying SDLC ownership across design, build, test, deployment, support, and secure software hygiene/upgrades.
- Requires three (3) years of experience utilizing UNIX/Linux operational proficiency for deployment, scripting, troubleshooting, and runtime support.
- Requires three (3) years of experience demonstrating expertise with exceptional command of investment management data, workflows, and controls that drive accurate, high-impact business outcomes.
- Requires three (3) years of experience evaluating quantitative and analytical capability for portfolio analytics contexts including performance, attribution, and risk.
- Requires three (3) years of experience calculating Financial look-through for portfolio exposure, risk analytics and built complex logic for multi-level look-through of funds.

- Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $165,589 and $165,589 per year at the commencement of employment.
