About the Role

As a Tax Manager on the Tax and Business Services team, you will oversee tax compliance, planning, and advisory engagements while serving as a trusted resource to clients. You will lead and develop team members, resolve complex tax matters, manage engagement performance, and identify opportunities to support clients’ broader business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary client contact, build trusted relationships, and provide strategic tax planning and business consulting guidance.
  • Oversee tax reporting, planning, and compliance engagements, including the review of income, sales, payroll, corporate, pass-through, partnership, and other applicable tax returns.
  • Conduct top-level review of tax returns, resolve technical issues with clients, and involve specialists when appropriate.
  • Monitor changing federal, state, and local tax laws to support compliance and identify opportunities to minimize clients’ tax and reporting burdens.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop tax and business services professionals through delegation, training, guidance, and actionable performance feedback.
  • Analyze financial statements and advise clients on business strategy, financial planning, risk management, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships through cross-selling, proposals, and recommendations for additional services.
  • Monitor engagement progress, budgets, billing, and out-of-scope activity while keeping clients and firm leadership informed.
  • Determine when tax research is needed, clearly frame technical issues, and communicate concise written analysis and advice.
  • Maintain the highest standards of quality, confidentiality, professional ethics, and firm compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required; Master’s degree in accounting is preferred.
  • Five to eight years of recent public accounting experience, including prior supervisory experience.
  • CPA license or active progress toward licensure is preferred. Strong candidates with relevant experience may be considered without current CPA pursuit.
  • Experience with corporate taxation, consolidations, partnerships, individual taxation, corporate pass-through entities, and state and local tax is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage tax professionals, delegate effectively, and provide clear verbal and written feedback.
  • Executive presence and experience acting as a primary client contact, including presenting tax issues, recommendations, and resolutions.
  • Strong analytical, research, critical-thinking, decision-making, and written tax advisory skills.
  • Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance software. ProSystem fx experience is preferred, but systems training is available.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook, as well as Adobe Acrobat.
  • Ability to manage multiple clients, deadlines, budgets, and priorities while maintaining quality and accuracy.
