About the Role
The Business Credit Office (BCO) is a key component of the Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) Credit & Capital Management (CCM) operating model, acting as a partner and single point of engagement for relationship managers and frontline bankers for credit and lending. The BCO provides credit and credit risk expertise and execution to clients and centralized credit oversight, working in close alignment with credit risk and approval partners. This client-facing, customer service-oriented function includes structuring and documentation negotiation for credit products and lending facilities, credit analysis, risk rating recommendation, and client credit monitoring. The Head of Global Corporate Banking Coverage, US BCO role is responsible for developing and leading a high-performing, client-centric BCO team, ensuring exemplary risk management acumen and control standards within the credit and lending process for US CIB’s Technology, Media, Telecom (TMT), Industrials, Consumer, and Healthcare sectors. The role holder must implement a common, reliable, and predictable underwriting and lending process, demonstrating strong credit risk acumen to protect the business while responding to client borrowing needs.
Responsibilities
- Leading and overseeing teams responsible for executing the delivery of credit and lending servicing journeys within the US market, focusing on the Global Corporate Banking business segment.
- Ensuring alignment with regional processes and a seamless, efficient process for customers, while complying with US regulatory requirements.
- Monitoring and analyzing customer feedback to identify local areas for improvement and ensure alignment with regional priorities.
- Collaborating with local and global stakeholders (CCM, WCR, Legal, Sector Coverage, digital channels, products) to implement the wholesale credit and lending journey strategy.
- Supporting and driving the implementation of governance frameworks for escalating and resolving credit and lending journey risks and issues.
- Monitoring financial and non-financial risks related to CCM production in partnership with local Non-Financial Risk (NFR)/Business Risk.
- Supporting the management of Objectives and Key Results (OKR), Key Performance Indicators (KPI), and Service Level Agreement (SLA) frameworks.
- Maintaining service management oversight for operational and control performance across CCM Change the Bank (CTB) & Run the Bank (RTB) services.
- Collaborating with internal teams (CCMS Product, Design and Innovation Pillar, technology, transformation) to execute the CCM technology strategy, reduce legacy technologies, and drive innovation.
- Developing and maintaining relationships with regulators, US credit review, internal and external auditors, and participating in audits and regulatory exams.
- Managing multiple senior stakeholders with varied agendas, navigating complex situations, and driving alignment.
- Supporting and driving the implementation of a globally leading BCO model in the US, leveraging organizational design capabilities.
- Maintaining a diverse, innovation-driven credit and lending workforce, ensuring high levels of engagement and satisfaction.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in credit and lending, with a strong background in managing loan portfolios.
- Experience with global corporates preferred, focusing on TMT, Industrials, Healthcare, or Consumer sectors.
- Proven track record of leading and managing teams, with experience in organizational design and strategic planning.
- Extensive stakeholder management skills, with the ability to navigate complex situations and drive alignment among senior leaders.
- Advanced financial acumen and credit assessment skills, including expert judgment in transaction structuring and assessing borrower creditworthiness.
- Broad knowledge of US regulatory frameworks impacting credit and lending.
- Expertise in credit risk management, control assessment, and Sarbanes–Oxley Act (SOX) compliance.
- Experience in driving digitization and customer experience improvement initiatives.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to effectively discuss credit with clients, negotiate terms, and build rapport with external and internal stakeholders.
