About the Role
As a Disability Claims Consultant, you will be responsible for assessing and managing disputed disability claims that are referred to the Appeal team through Sun Life’s disability appeal process. This is a 1-year temporary assignment.
Responsibilities
- Assess disputed disability claims in accordance with claims practices and procedures within established service standards.
- Demonstrate excellent knowledge of group disability insurance and claims management strategies.
- Obtain relevant outstanding information or request third-party assessments for identified information gaps.
- Provide support to Disability Case Managers on optimal claims decisions, considering contract, medical, functional, and vocational components.
- Collaborate with Team Managers to identify and address deficiencies in case management and decision-making through coaching.
- Evaluate and weigh the totality of information and its impact on clients when making claims decisions.
- Communicate with clients with respect and empathy throughout the appeal process and deliver final decisions tactfully.
- Report on emerging trends to facilitate addressing and leveraging learnings nationally.
- Contribute to a dynamic work environment by identifying opportunities for process improvement to meet service excellence, quality, and financial commitments.

- Ability to evaluate and identify key information relevant to each case for presentation to the Appeal committee.

- Adaptability, flexibility, and strong decision-making skills.
- Bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only.
