About the Role

Cloudflare's Emerging Technologies & Incubation (ETI) department is seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team building innovative products that enhance security and speed for millions of internet users. This role involves shaping product features, improving performance, and ensuring the team meets ambitious engineering goals to transform application development.

Understand how big-picture goals inform technical details.
Deliver scalable distributed systems in a fast-paced iterative engineering environment.
Lead teams with respect as both a technical leader and manager.
Implement tools, processes, internal instrumentation, methodologies, and resolve blockages.
Build developer-loved APIs that scale.
Lead a team including hiring, on-boarding, and professional development.
Inspire teams to reach higher.
Explain the "why" as well as the "how".

Requirements

At least 4 years of recent professional experience with TypeScript or Go.
Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented or functional design.
Deep understanding of the web and technologies such as web browsers, HTTP, JavaScript and WebAssembly.
Strong communications skills, especially building a shared understanding of systems among team members.
Comfortable leading and hiring a team that builds distributed systems.
Ability to navigate uncertainty and ambiguity.
Excel at planning, creating teams, and overseeing execution to meet commitments and deliver with predictability.
Experience building high performance distributed systems.
Experience delivering and operating critical infrastructure for cloud platforms, especially serverless platforms.
Deep Linux/UNIX systems, kernel, or networking knowledge.
Contributions to large open source projects.
Experience working with distributed storage and cache architectures.
Experience debugging, optimizing and identifying failure modes in a large-scale Linux-based distributed system.
