About the Role

The Aquatics Instructor delivers high-quality swim instruction, promotes water safety, and supports daily pool operations. The role also supports youth aquatic training and certification courses, ensuring safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate aquatic programming aligned with agency goals.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality swim instruction.
• Promote water safety.
• Support daily pool operations within the Lanza Activities Center.
• Support youth aquatic training and certification courses.
• Ensure youth and families experience safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate aquatic programming.
• Collaborate across departments to enhance agency-wide recreation and family initiatives.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, CPR, and First Aid required.
• Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification required or obtained within 6 months of hire.
• Experience teaching swim lessons or working in an aquatic environment required.
• Valid NYS Driver’s License required.

Skills

• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to engage youth in structured, supportive instruction.

Education Level

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field preferred.
• Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification preferred.
