About the Role

The Youth & Family Program Director provides strategic and operational leadership for all youth and family-focused offerings, ensuring high-quality, mission-driven experiences that strengthen individuals and families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee all Youth & Family programs, ensuring high-quality, mission-driven offerings that meet community needs.
  • Drive program innovation, growth, and participation through strong design, standards, and consistent delivery.
  • Monitor performance using data, feedback, and trends to continuously improve and ensure inclusive, accessible experiences.
  • Oversee all staffing functions including hiring, onboarding, scheduling, supervision, and performance management.
  • Build a high-performing, values-driven team through clear expectations, coaching, and ongoing feedback.
  • Develop training systems, support staff growth, and ensure adequate staffing for safe, effective operations.
  • Manage department budget, forecasting, and expenses to ensure financial health and sustainability.
  • Use data analysis to assess performance, guide decisions, and identify growth opportunities.
  • Oversee operational systems (registration, scheduling, payroll, reporting) and ensure accuracy and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead and enforce safety practices, ensuring compliance with YMCA policies and all regulations.
  • Oversee safety protocols, staff certifications, incident reporting, and documentation.
  • Conduct training, audits, and continuous improvements to maintain a safe environment.
  • Lead communication strategies and build strong relationships with members, families, and participants.
  • Oversee marketing, promotions, and events to drive engagement and participation.
  • Represent the YMCA in the community and strengthen partnerships aligned with mission and inclusivity.
  • Develop and execute strategic plans, goals, and performance metrics aligned with YMCA priorities.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation, growth, and community impact.
  • Contribute to organizational leadership, cross-functional initiatives, and fundraising efforts.
  • Ensure program spaces, equipment, and supplies are safe, maintained, and operationally ready.
  • Coordinate with facilities on repairs and improvements.
  • Plan and execute high-quality, safe, and engaging events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience leading youth and/or family programs, including staff supervision.
  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certifications (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of youth development best practices and child safety/risk management.
  • Commitment to the YMCA mission and values.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Previous YMCA experience preferred.
