About the Role

Facilitates patient flow through the system from scheduling through registration check-in, ensuring a seamless registration and scheduling experience. Responsible for gathering demographic and financial information to accurately identify patients and secure appropriate payment sources. Performs registration, insurance eligibility verification, patient liability collection, scheduling, and admitting duties. Provides service estimates and processes patient financial liability payments.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, physicians, staff, co-workers, and guests professionally and promptly.
  • Checks patients into the system and provides directions based on appointment location, financial clearance, and counseling status.
  • Acknowledges and assists patients with special needs while respecting confidentiality.
  • Responds to telephone calls according to established customer service standards and provides requested information.
  • Contributes to the reduction of abandoned call rate, call length, and average speed to answer when assigned to scheduling.
  • Performs accurate patient searches within the hospital system to maintain EMPI integrity and ensure accurate patient identification.
  • Accurately establishes and schedules appointments following designated protocols.
  • May initiate contact with patients to obtain additional information or confirm scheduled appointments.
  • Enters accurate and complete demographic and financial information into the system for payment security.
  • Performs insurance eligibility verification and executes payor requirements.
  • Initiates eligibility transactions, contacts payors for billing information and authorization, and obtains scripts for service when appropriate.
  • Provides service estimates and actively solicits patient liability.
  • Enters testing orders in the appropriate system, requiring understanding of coding, procedural protocols, and the charge description master.
  • Obtains signatures for all required organization, state, and federal consents and/or notifications.
  • Remains compliant, current, and knowledgeable with Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities, including HIPAA, EMTALA, and Patient Bill of Rights.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of job-related experience with a HS Diploma.
  • Basic MS Word & MS Excel proficiency.
  • Customer Service and organizational skills.
  • National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) certification within one year of hire is desired.
