About the Role
Emery Jensen is seeking a Business Development Manager to expand its footprint in the Northeast by acquiring high-value Pro Lumber, Paint, and Hardware customers. This hunter role focuses on relationship building, closing full conversions, and establishing long-term profitable partnerships, positioning Emery Jensen as the primary distributor.
Responsibilities
- Identify and sign new high-value customers across Pro Lumber, Pro Paint, and Hardware Stores/Home Centers channels.
- Develop a prospect pipeline and determine customer needs to present the Emery Jensen value proposition.
- Act as an ambassador for Emery Jensen, building relationships with industry organizations, vendors, and prospective customers.
- Collaborate with the Emery Jensen sales team to ensure smooth customer transitions.
- Manage accounts throughout the full 12-month sales cycle, ensuring customer growth.
- Increase top-line sales and target prospective customers with company profitability in mind.
- Understand ROI, customer lifetime value, and Emery Jensen’s financial model.
- Develop sales approaches optimizing profitable customer relationships.
- Articulate and execute the Emery-Jensen value proposition to open prospective customers.
- Maintain a weekly prospect pipeline with measurable results.
- Present Pre/Post Call plans detailing measurable improvements towards customer conversion.
- Utilize EJD marketing and merchandising materials to present solutions.
- Participate in national industry organizations and attend industry events.
- Build relationships with field sales teams from national partners.
- Communicate with Territory Managers to plan the transition of newly opened accounts.
- Manage travel, meeting, membership, and conversion resource expenses within budget.
- Attend industry trade shows with a strategic 'show plan'.
Requirements
- College degree or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 3 years in new business development or territory manager position.
- Comfortability with cold calling and a track record for success.
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Business Intelligence systems, and CRM tools.
- Travel 60-75% of the time.
- Reside in proximity to Albany, New York, Portland, ME, or Providence, RI.
