About the Role
We are looking for a hard-working, detail-oriented Special Process Engineer to provide technical oversight and drive continuous improvement across various specialized processes. Key components of this role are a person’s attention to detail, ability to solve problems, clear communication abilities and desire to learn.
Responsibilities
- Help lead qualifications, certifications, and audits to ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements
- Provide technical oversight for special processes
- Manage process and operator qualifications and certifications
- Design and implement process systems that meet regulatory and operational requirements and enhance quality and efficiency
- Identify and procure essential equipment and materials
- Design fixtures to support specialized processes
- Act as a customer liaison for special processes, including interactions with customers like Pratt & Whitney MCL
- Troubleshoot abnormalities and communicate clearly with management
- Work closely with customer teams to develop, optimize, and maintain critical processes
- Maintain detailed process procedures and controls
- Develop operational sheets, schedules, and data cards with specified parameters
- Develop control plans and analyze process capabilities
- Provide training and guidance to technical staff
- Innovate and implement new technologies for special processes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of experience in non-conventional machining (Laser, EDM, ECM, Chem Processing, etc.) – OR – in lieu of degree, 7+ years of experience in non-conventional machining (Laser, EDM, ECM, Chem Processing, etc.)
- 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or quality engineering role
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time bases without sponsorship now or in the future.
- Must be able to perform work subject to ITAR/EAR regulations.
Skills
- Programming and operating Laser/EDM equipment (e.g., subishi, Sodick, FANUC, Trumpf, etc.)
- Material behavior during high-energy machining processes
- Process documentation and validation (FAI, PPAP, control plans)
- Reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and GD&T
- Special process audits and NADCAP accreditation requirements
- Lean or Six Sigma certification
- CNC, CMM, and precision inspection tools
- CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Siemens NX, SolidWorks)
- Titrations and other chemical testing
- Aerospace experience
