About the Role

Texas Oncology is offering a full-time Nurse Residency position for recent Registered Nursing graduates, beginning January 2027 in the Austin/San Antonio regional area. This 10-week program includes didactic and clinical components, with the initial two weeks in Dallas (expenses covered) and the remaining eight weeks in the Austin/San Antonio region. Upon completion, residents may transfer to other regions based on availability.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate patient care, promoting continuity.
  • Administer therapies under physician direction and supervision.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and follow OSHA guidelines for handling hazardous materials.
  • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care, including scheduling consultations, tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Triage patient phone calls and document relevant information.
  • Collaborate with interprofessional teams, acting as a resource for LPN/LVNs and Medical Assistants.
  • Participate in professional development and continuing education to stay current in oncology nursing.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing within three years prior to January 11, 2027.
  • Current BCLS (Basic Cardiac and Life Support) certification required upon hire.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) State license with the Texas State Board of Nursing required by the end of the residency program.
  • Experience and knowledge of medication use in cancer treatment is preferred.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and other conditions common to an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
  • Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
