About the Role

The Teacher Assistant Float is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of educational goals for children, particularly those with special needs, within a nurturing and inclusive early care and education environment.

Responsibilities

• Assess, teach, and implement identified developmental goals for children with special needs.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement individual and group activity plans.
• Make recommendations to the Head Teacher regarding curriculum planning and modifications.
• Write and provide anecdotal and progress notes.
• Attend meetings and manage record keeping.
• Work with parents to support children's development.
• Work closely with other teaching/staff in the development of a comprehensive children’s program.
• Carry out assigned tasks including activities, child care duties, housekeeping, and record keeping.
• Greet parents or guardians cordially and professionally, exchanging accurate information about the child's day.
• Create a warm, nurturing, and respectful atmosphere for children.
• Provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum.
• Provide educational and therapeutic activities for children across various developmental areas.
• Work cooperatively with parents, staff, and third-party consultants to meet individual needs.
• Complete and maintain development records for clients.
• Supervise children at all times to ensure their safety.
• Perform center assistant duties such as meal preparation, food distribution, inventory management, and restocking supplies.
• Follow all food safety and sanitation protocols.
• Collaborate with team members to ensure timely and efficient meal service.
• Perform additional duties as needed.

Requirements

• Must be a High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must hold State of California Commission of Teacher Credentialing Assistant Permit or higher.
• Must be able to pass a physical exam and TB screening upon hire.
• Must pass a Department of Justice fingerprint clearance and a Child Abuse Index clearance upon hire.
• Must be able to lift 25-40 lbs.
• Must be able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, lower and raise self from floor, and use both hands to grasp securely.
• Must be able to move quickly in an emergency situation.
• Knowledge and experience in working with children with special needs is a plus.
• Knowledge of low-income and homeless issues for children and families is preferred.
• Knowledge of and sensitivity to the cultural background of the children and families being served.
• Ability to relate to children and adults in a positive, respectful manner.
• Ability to independently understand, speak, read, and write English adequate to communicate effectively.
• Ability to work independently under broad supervision.
• Ability to be a team player with a welcoming attitude.
