About the Role

Support the running of large practice groups, contribute to firmwide strategic projects, and ensure the smooth operation of the practice as a whole. This role involves driving effective operations, supporting key processes, and improving daily functions through collaboration with partners, lawyers, and business teams.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-level coordination and support for partner meetings, including agenda preparation, note-taking, action management, and speaker coordination.
  • Coordinate department/team meetings, including agenda preparation and guest invitations.
  • Coordinate work allocation within practice groups to balance workloads and maximize efficiency.
  • Ensure smooth onboarding of new joiners through practice group inductions and HR collaboration.
  • Improve processes by working with Practice Support Managers and other Business Teams.
  • Support the delivery of practice group business plans and oversee aspects of practice group budgets.
  • Coordinate and document changes for supervision arrangements (new joiners, promotees, returners) in liaison with HR.
  • Collaborate with HR on people matters across the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, development, feedback gathering, and objective setting.
  • Prepare team updates on joiners, leavers, and secondments.
  • Manage client secondment requests end-to-end, including reverse secondments, liaising with practice groups, business teams, and clients.
  • Coordinate fee earner resource-sharing requests across practice groups for busy periods or absence cover.
  • Monitor utilization across the practice, identify trends, and report concerns to supervisors or Heads of Departments.
  • Identify and resolve reporting errors with relevant teams.
  • Respond to queries from lawyers and partners regarding individual or team utilization.
  • Support understanding and adherence to the time recording policy.
  • Maintain and improve the Practice Management team’s intranet pages.
  • Support the Practice Director on projects, including developing and implementing a new pro bono strategy.
  • Work with the Emerging Talent Manager on paralegal role design and resourcing.
  • Streamline communications from Business Teams to the practice.

Requirements

  • Experience working as a Practice Manager or Practice Advisor, ideally in a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Proactive self-starter with a can-do attitude.
  • Well-organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable navigating new areas and working fluidly with colleagues across functions.
  • Able to build effective and trusting relationships quickly at all levels.
  • Strong influencing skills, including the confidence to provide constructive challenge.
  • Openness to adjust approaches based on feedback.
  • Share company values and desire to make a difference.
