About the Role

The Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer participates in a collaborative team environment to develop construction documents and provide engineering support for HVAC, plumbing, process piping, controls, and related mechanical systems. This role leads complex projects, provides technical direction and mentorship, ensures code compliance, and delivers high-quality engineering solutions. The engineer serves as a subject matter expert throughout all project phases.

Responsibilities

  • Performs engineering tasks for the design of utilities and HVAC (wet/dry) systems for high technology facilities including cleanrooms, general manufacturing/process facilities and institutional facilities.
  • Prepares mechanical engineering calculations in support of HVAC systems design including heat load calculations, duct sizing, chilled water hydraulics, static pressure calculations, equipment sizing and selection.
  • Plans and schedules discipline deliverables and activities including man-hour estimation, assigning personnel, and supervision of discipline personnel on the Projects.
  • Develops manpower and labor cost requirements for a project and monitor them to aid in evaluating project schedule and budget.
  • Provides specialized technical input to studies and design for staff’s specific area of expertise.
  • Develops study and design procedures to facilitate high quality cost effective work by discipline team.
  • Develops conceptual design, preliminary design and final design documents which would include calculations related to sizing and selecting of these systems, the development of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, general arrangements and sequences of operation associated with these systems.
  • Works closely in coordination with the project team and other disciplines as well as other design offices.
  • Coordinates with disciplines in the preparation and development of the deliverables and ensuring those other disciplines’ inputs are incorporated.
  • Works to build and maintain positive and productive working relationships both internal and external.
  • Provides input to the development of engineering budget and schedule to meet requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft products.
  • Ability to mentor and train junior staff.
  • Consulting engineering experience preferred.
  • Experience working within a team environment.
  • Experience in the quality control review process.
  • Experience contributing to continuous improvement processes.
