About the Role
Flexport is seeking a Staff Program Manager, Strategic Initiatives to architect and build the future of the Flexport Fulfillment network. This role involves deploying automation, designing processes, building decision tools, and creating operational standards for scaling. You will own initiatives end-to-end, from concept to go-live, including business case development, ROI justification, and post-launch performance tracking. The position sits at the intersection of operations, product, engineering, and technology, requiring a hands-on approach to problem-solving and a comfort with ambiguity.
Responsibilities
- Own initiatives from whiteboard to go-live, including business case and ROI justification.
- Develop and own ROI models for automation and capital projects (ASRS, robotics, goods-to-person), including labor savings, throughput gains, and payback analysis.
- Track actuals vs. projected ROI post-implementation and report to leadership and finance.
- Evaluate, select, and implement warehouse automation solutions (ASRS, AMRs, conveyor systems, goods-to-person) as a technical program owner.
- Define automation requirements based on operational data (throughput, bin/cube utilization, labor rates, SKU profiles, peak capacity).
- Manage implementation timelines, construction sequencing, and go-live readiness, including transition plans.
- Develop tooling, dashboards, and models directly using SQL, Python, and BI platforms.
- Use data to uncover bottlenecks, size automation opportunities, and drive capital allocation decisions.
- Prototype workflows on the floor before scaling.
- Partner with engineering, product, operations, and finance to align on priorities and scale solutions.
- Establish SOPs, KPIs, and reporting cadences for fulfillment execution.
- Develop and execute multi-year automation and network buildout roadmaps with senior leadership.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in fulfillment, logistics, supply chain, or operations strategy.
- Direct exposure to high-volume networks and automation or robotics programs.
- Proven end-to-end ownership of large-scale capital programs, including business case development, implementation, and ROI tracking.
- Hands-on automation experience with ASRS, robotics, goods-to-person systems, or conveyor/sortation technology.
- Strong financial modeling skills, including building ROI models from scratch and defending financial projections.
- Extremely strong technical skillset: SQL (expert), Excel/Google Sheets (advanced), BI tools (Looker, Tableau, PowerBI), and preferably Python.
- Entrepreneurial mindset: thrives in ambiguity, comfortable building from scratch, biased toward action, and willing to work on the warehouse floor.
- Executive-level communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Experience working closely with software engineering teams on tooling, systems, and technical trade-offs.
