About the Role
East Side House (ESH) is seeking enthusiastic, dependable, creative, and youth-centered educators to develop and facilitate engaging activities for students in grades K-5 in an after-school program. The role involves creating an inclusive learning environment and adapting activities to support students with diverse needs.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety, active supervision, well-being, and engagement of participants.
- Develop and facilitate structured, age-appropriate lesson plans in various enrichment areas.
- Establish clear learning objectives and prepare students for culminating projects.
- Adapt activities and instructional approaches for different abilities and learning styles.
- Maintain effective group management and clear behavior expectations.
- Promote positive youth development through mentorship and relationship-building.
- Collaborate with staff, leadership, and families to address student needs.
- Support daily program operations, including transitions and dismissal.
- Maintain clean and organized classrooms and manage program materials.
- Complete required documentation accurately and on time.
- Immediately report injuries, incidents, and significant student needs.
- Participate in required staff meetings, trainings, and professional development.
- Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, reliability, flexibility, teamwork, and openness to feedback.
- Follow all East Side House, DYCD, DOE, Department of Health, and program policies.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- At least one year of experience working with elementary-aged youth in a relevant setting.
- Ability to develop and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans and activities.
- Ability to lead activities in multiple enrichment areas.
- Ability to adapt activities for students with different abilities and learning styles.
- Strong youth-engagement, communication, group-management, and behavior-support skills.
- Dependability, organization, professionalism, flexibility, and willingness to receive feedback.
- Ability to work collaboratively with program staff, families, and community partners.
- Commitment to creating a safe, respectful, equitable, and inclusive environment.
- Ability to complete all required background clearances, medical requirements, agency trainings, and regulatory requirements.
- Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Experience supporting children with disabilities, developmental differences, autism spectrum disorder, or sensory-processing needs.
- Experience facilitating project-based learning, social-emotional learning, mindfulness, yoga, wellness, or sensory-based activities.
- Relevant coursework, training, or certification in education, youth development, child development, special education, social work, recreation, or a related field.
- Successful completion of all required background checks, clearances, screenings, and trainings.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to speak clearly and communicate effectively with groups of children.
- Ability to bend, reach, and move throughout classrooms and program spaces.
- Ability to lift and carry program materials weighing approximately 10–25 pounds.
- Ability to set up and organize classrooms and activity materials.
- Ability to actively participate in recreational and enrichment activities.
- Ability to supervise students in various settings.
- Willingness to undergo reasonable accommodations for disabilities.
