About the Role
The Whatnot Design System (WDS) is crucial for shipping coherent products across iOS, Android, and web. This role involves evolving WDS 2.0, focusing on tokens, components, and the pipeline connecting Figma to production code.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve Whatnot Design System components across iOS (Swift/SwiftUI), Android (Kotlin/Compose), and web (React/TypeScript).
- Own and extend our design token architecture and the automated pipeline that syncs them from Figma.
- Partner with product designers to review specs, test component APIs, flag gaps, and build tooling.
- Raise the bar on quality and leverage through accessibility, dark mode, RTL, testing, and AI-assisted workflows.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience building user-facing products.
- Shipped production UI on at least two of our three platforms — iOS (Swift/SwiftUI), Android (Kotlin/Jetpack Compose), and web (React/TypeScript).
- Hands-on experience building or maintaining a design system.
- Strong track record of cross-functional collaboration with designers.
- Care for details like accessibility, theming, internationalization/RTL, and testing.
