About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Investment Analyst to join our Canadian Equities team with primary coverage responsibility for Canadian sector coverage. This is a high-impact role for an analyst who brings genuine intellectual curiosity, strong fundamental research skills, and the drive to generate sustained alpha through differentiated insight. You will work closely with the portfolio management team, contributing directly to investment decisions across our Canadian equity mandates.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain deep, differentiated investment theses across an assigned coverage universe within the Canadian equity market.
- Conduct rigorous bottom-up fundamental analysis, including financial modelling, valuation work, and scenario analysis.
- Leverage a broad set of analytical tools, alternative data, and proprietary frameworks to enhance the depth and originality of your research.
- Identify and monitor key variant perceptions, catalysts, and risk factors across your coverage universe.
- Produce well-structured, clearly written investment notes and recommendations for presentation to the portfolio management team and investment committee.
- Partner closely with Portfolio Managers to communicate actionable buy, sell, and sizing recommendations with clear, well-reasoned conviction.
- Participate actively in investment committee discussions, contributing to debate on portfolio positioning and sector views.
- Support portfolio risk monitoring by tracking developments across holdings and providing timely updates on material changes.
- Build and maintain relationships with company management teams, sell-side analysts, and industry contacts.
- Attend industry conferences, company site visits, and earnings calls to develop on-the-ground perspective.
- Systematically broaden coverage through efficient research processes and scalable analytical frameworks.
- Contribute to the team's continuous improvement culture by sharing learnings, refining processes, and helping to raise the overall quality of research output.
- Integrate ESG factors and sustainability considerations into investment analysis in a manner consistent with the team's investment philosophy and client mandates.
Requirements
- 5–7 years of equity research experience, with a predominant focus on the Canadian market.
- Demonstrated ability to generate high-conviction investment ideas backed by rigorous, original research.
- Deep familiarity with Canadian equity markets, industries, and the regulatory and macroeconomic environment.
- Experience covering the large Canadian sectors such as Financials, Materials and Energy is preferred.
- Comfort leveraging AI and machine learning tools to enhance research productivity — including large language models, natural language processing for document analysis, and AI-assisted data synthesis — while applying sound judgment to evaluate and validate outputs critically.
- Exceptional financial modelling and valuation skills (DCF, comparable company analysis, sum-of-the-parts, etc.).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills — able to distil complex analysis into clear, concise investment arguments.
- High degree of initiative, accountability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
- Collaborative yet independent — you contribute openly to team debate while maintaining well-reasoned conviction in your views.
- Proficiency with research and analytical tools such as Bloomberg, FactSet, or equivalent platforms.
