About the Role
The Baruch STEP Academy is an academic enrichment program focusing on STEM education and college preparation for middle and high school students. Managed through the CUNY Research Foundation, it serves 200 students annually. This role involves planning and teaching an SAT Math Preparation course to upper-class high school students, covering Geometry, Trigonometry, and Algebra I and II, along with test-taking strategies.
Responsibilities
- Plan and teach original course curriculum
- Evaluate student and group performance
- Provide staff with measurable results in student learning through assessments
- Monitor and maintain student attendance records
- Reassess curriculum based on student needs, interest, and understanding of material
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Availability for each program day from 10:30am-12pm
- Strong background in the subject area
- Experience in a teaching capacity within subject area
- Experience with designing/implementing a course curriculum
- Have a strong classroom management style
- Prior teaching experience with high school or undergraduate students
- Ability to engage students with creative lessons and innovative teaching style
- Possess good interpersonal skills with adolescents and a strong understanding of their maturity levels
- Enthusiasm for the subject with flexibility in adjusting curriculum to reflect students' abilities
