About the Role

The Residential Instructor is responsible for the daily supervision of consumers and program operations, ensuring accurate and timely progress tracking. This role implements Agency policies and procedures to maintain a safe and healthy environment for consumers and Agency property, fostering a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor consumer behavior and implement behavior management programs.
  • Document all shift activities, incidents, and consumer progress accurately.
  • Provide programmatic and statistical reports as required.
  • Maintain the safety, appearance, and cleanliness of the residence.
  • Conduct sanitation and safety inspections of all areas.
  • Make minor repairs and report potential major problems to supervisors.
  • Maintain a professional attitude with colleagues, management, and external agencies.
  • Ensure constant knowledge of consumer locations and adherence to Agency policies and procedures.
  • Alert appropriate personnel immediately to problems or unusual occurrences.
  • Complete incident reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to all policies, procedures, and commitments required by state and federal agencies.
  • Report on delegated responsibilities at staff meetings.
  • Act as an advocate and role model for consumers, treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Assist consumers with necessary hygiene.
  • Document all activities pertaining to the welfare of the home or consumer.
  • Distribute medications according to schedules and guidelines.
  • Provide and supervise activities for consumers, both internally and externally.
  • Offer counseling and reinforcement to assigned consumers.
  • Supervise and safely transport residents to community activities and programs.
  • Follow emergency procedures for various critical incidents.
  • Assist guardians and others in understanding and implementing normalization/person-centered-planning principles.
  • Report and respond to any violation of individuals' rights.
  • Participate in investigations as directed.
  • Assist with shopping, meal preparation, set-up, and clean-up.
  • Attend in-service training and professional development opportunities.
  • Provide training for Agency personnel as required.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain a thorough working knowledge of Agency policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Minimum two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses (experience may be substituted with education).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by the Agency.
  • Ability to travel in the course of daily work.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, PMT, and DDS State Medication Administration.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, transfer, and physically intervene with individuals as required.
