About the Role
Perform administrative and secretarial functions in direct support of the Physician Practice. This role involves direct customer contact to obtain accurate demographic and insurance information, facilitate scheduling, and manage patient flow. You will communicate with internal and external customers, process referrals, authorizations, and assist patients in accessing care.
Responsibilities
- Ensure a positive customer service atmosphere and interaction in the reception area.
- Interact with co-workers and internal customers respectfully and professionally.
- Process telephone calls and messages promptly, accurately, courteously, and efficiently.
- Follow department guidelines for triage and scheduling of patients.
- Process patient information, including interviewing and pre-registering patients.
- Enter all information into the billing system per established policies and procedures.
- Accurately code visits based on diagnosis.
- Identify coding discrepancies and seek clarification to maximize reimbursement.
- Enter all charges/codes into the billing system accurately.
- Support financial objectives by collecting payment at the time of visit.
- Accurately complete cash sheets and deliver them daily.
- Assist in maintaining and decreasing organization/departmental costs.
- Facilitate patient access to care, including scheduling appointments and assisting with specialty care access.
- Provide instructions and directions based on protocols and physician orders.
- Assist patients in meeting insurance requirements for continued care.
- Process referrals and coordinate/submit information for timely authorizations.
- Demonstrate accountability for professional development.
- Act as a patient advocate.
- Serve as a coach and mentor for new hires and/or students.
- Demonstrate problem-solving abilities and seek assistance from supervisors when appropriate.
- Assist in department compliance with preparing for annual surveys and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in continuous survey readiness.
- Support performance improvement initiatives within the physician practice.
- Assist in data collection as directed by management.
- Incorporate implemented performance improvement initiatives into practice.
- Maintain the environment of care, ensuring supplies are replenished daily and the environment is clean and safe.
- Function and concentrate at a high level, demonstrating thoroughness and accuracy.
- Think and concentrate for an entire shift.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma, GED or next level of higher education.
- Strong leadership ability.
- Good organizational skills.
- Independent and critical thinking skills.
- Sound judgment.
- Strong ability to communicate complex and/or controversial topics and concepts to a wide and diverse audience.
- Ability to perform the Essential Functions listed on the Physical Conditions and Working Condition charts.
