About the Role
This role involves monitoring program participants and staff in both the Ticonderoga Teen Center and the Silver Bay Summer Camp, reporting to the Youth & Teen Coordinator. The position offers a fast-paced environment with growth potential, focused on making a difference in the lives of children and teens.
Responsibilities
- Supervise FT and PT Teen Center staff, and Summer Seasonal Silver Camp staff.
- Plan and lead physical, social, and educational activities for youth ages 13-18 at the Teen Center.
- Serve as primary advisor for Leaders Club, organizing meetings and community service projects.
- Transport and chaperone teens to YMCA Teen Leaders Club Northeast Regional Rallies.
- Maintain accurate attendance records for all programs.
- Participate in and help lead group training programs.
- Assist with parent/guardian communications, including monthly calendars and newsletters.
- Monitor participant sign-in/sign-out and ensure awareness of participant locations.
- Oversee opening and closing procedures in the absence of the Youth and Teen Coordinator.
- Implement YMCA character development goals and ensure programs meet community needs at Silver Camp.
- Assist in the implementation of programs and activities that foster camper growth.
- Work with Youth & Teen Coordinator on staff training, including safety, lesson plans, and emergency procedures.
- Directly manage Silver Camp staff in the absence of the Youth and Teen Coordinator.
- Monitor required staff-to-camper ratios and assist with swimming activities.
- Coordinate facility usage for Silver Camp and ensure site cleanliness.
- Communicate clearly and courteously with staff, parents, volunteers, and children.
- Inspect and evaluate equipment on a daily and weekly basis, reporting necessary repairs.
- Perform other duties as requested.
- Work weekends, evenings, night shifts, and/or holidays as needed.
Requirements
- Must maintain effective working relationships with staff, peers, children, volunteers, and parents from diverse backgrounds.
- Must possess strong customer service skills and the ability to enforce rules professionally and positively.
- CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications or willingness to obtain them.
- Child Abuse Prevention and other Y training required within 14 days of hire.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Basic MS computer skills.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Must pass a criminal background check.
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods.
- Ability to adjust to effectively relate to each child.
- Ability to reach, kneel, and lift 25 pounds.
