About the Role

This role combines personal growth, community impact, and career opportunities by directly contributing to water safety and drowning prevention in an Olympic-sized pool. It is a challenging yet rewarding part-time position.

Responsibilities

  • Adapt teaching approach to match participant experience and abilities.
  • Organize and direct student activities to provide high-quality instruction.
  • Ensure all class students are registered on the roster before class begins.
  • Engage in personalized, meaningful instruction for the duration of the session.
  • Establish positive relations with parents/guardians, informing them of swimming developments.
  • Resolve basic public complaints related to swimming instruction and refer others to the supervisor.
  • Enforce pool safety standards and facility operational rules.
  • Complete and submit records and documentation of lessons to the Aquatics supervisor and the American Red Cross.
  • Collaborate with the Aquatics supervisor to refine teaching skills for various age groups and skill levels.
  • React effectively to emergency situations, including assisting or lifting persons in distress.
  • Remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for extended periods.
  • Communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Emphasize water safety and drowning prevention as the foundation of swimming and water recreation.
  • Attend regularly scheduled departmental meetings.
  • Ensure lifeguards are on duty during swim lessons.
  • Submit required course documents according to Red Cross guidelines within the specified timeframe.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Requirements

  • Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certification required.
  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification required.
  • Current CPR/ First Aid/AED Certifications required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
