About the Role
Performs interpreting and translating services of oral and/or written communications between languages in a medical setting, under the direction of a program director or clinic supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Provide interpreting/translating services for patients, employees, and patient decision makers.
- Interpret or translate all documents presented by or to patients, staff, and other individuals.
- Review translated material for accuracy of meaning, grammar, and syntax.
- Answer inquiries from patients, community agencies, and individuals, and interpret and explain words and phrases.
- Call patients with appointment confirmations, updated test results, prescription refills, and related information.
- Ensure communication flows from patient to Language Assistance Program Office.
- Track appointments and work schedule.
- Document patient or visit activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a health care or interpreting role; education may be substituted for work experience.
- Medical terminology and fluency in English and a second language.
- Ability to be aware and sensitive to patient cultural norms.
- Ability to remain flexible and available for emergency requests.
