About the Role
GFT is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager to join our Construction Services Team in New York, NY to work on construction projects. This role requires regular attendance in the New York, NY office.
Responsibilities
- Ensure the quality and high standards of performance and compliance in both design and construction by all consultants, vendors, etc.
- Make timely decisions and take action to expedite the completion of the construction process.
- Correct mistakes and errors in design and construction early in the process.
- Make decisions on phasing and scheduling of projects.
- Prepare or ensure preparation of schedules for planning, design, and construction.
- Monitor schedules and take appropriate actions to ensure project completion on schedule and within approved cost limitations.
- Provide ongoing interface with contractors, construction managers, and the client on project issues.
- Participate in the development and issuance of project procedures and policies; review and make recommendations on procedures and policies.
- Resolve issues and problems raised in field reports from architects and construction management staff.
- Work with the architect/engineer of record regarding change orders, interpretation of contract documents, shop drawing submittals/approvals, and other technical matters.
- Issue field memoranda or directives to contractors to enforce contract compliance.
- Use independent judgment to make on-site decisions.
- Review contractors' claims or disputed work and advise senior management on appropriate action.
- Visit various job sites as required.
- Perform other related tasks.
Requirements
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, architecture, or construction-related field.
- 5+ years of full-time experience as a technical specialist in one or more construction and design-related fields.
- Clear and concise oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of contract documents such as specifications and drawings.
- Ability to address issues as they arise and solve problems.
- Organized and able to manage the logistics of multiple projects concurrently.
- Experience in new, rehab, and modernization construction projects.
- A driver's license valid in New York State.
- GFT will not sponsor an employment visa (e.g., H-1B visa), including any visa renewal during employment.
