About the Role

The Senior Analyst Operations SMS supports the Director of Operations office by administering and improving Safety Management System (SMS) activities. This role involves close coordination with departments and stakeholders, focusing on SMS work, monitoring corrective action plans, and ensuring SMS integration.

Responsibilities

  • Administers and maintains the Director of Operations’ (DO) SMS in conjunction with the Safety Department.
  • Assists in investigating apparent violations under the Voluntary Disclosure Reporting Program (VDRP), FAA Compliance Actions (CAs), or other regulatory inquiries.
  • Assists in the development, tracking, and trending of comprehensive corrective action plans leading to timely closure.
  • Performs quality review of corrective actions and comprehensive fixes to ensure they adequately address identified issues and support acceptance or closure.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Certificate Management Office (CMO), acting as a point of contact for SMS activity oversight.
  • Manages regulatory SMS related data within systems, databases, and FAA/international regulatory portals.
  • Ensures the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of SMS and regulatory data for investigations, corrective action management, trend analysis, and reporting.
  • Supports DO Change Management processes, including coordinating corrective/mitigating action implementation.
  • Reviews safety incidents and regulatory escapes, conducts investigations as required, and performs root cause analysis and hazard/risk identification.
  • Monitors the implementation and effectiveness of corrective and mitigating controls, identifies gaps, and coordinates with stakeholders to strengthen actions.
  • Conducts hazard identification and risk assessment exercises for DO activities and initiatives.
  • Serves as a liaison between organizational regulatory compliance areas, divisional and corporate safety teams, and the Director of Operations.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders to ensure continued compliance with FAA and international regulations, guidelines, and corporate standard operating procedures related to SMS.
  • Conducts meetings and conference calls regarding regulatory compliance issues.
  • Coordinates and schedules meetings between JetBlue and the FAA Certificate Management Office (CMO).
  • Prepares and presents briefings, reports, and status updates for Operations and Safety Leadership regarding regulatory events, corrective actions, risk, trends, and issues requiring leadership direction.
  • Ensures DO and Safety Leadership are apprised of all identified significant safety issues and trends.
  • Reviews, tracks, analyzes, and trends key performance indicators and related safety and regulatory compliance data.
  • Synthesizes information from various sources to identify recurring hazards, trends, control weaknesses, and opportunities for preventive or systemic corrective action.
  • Prepares and distributes recurring summaries of VDRP, SMS, and related regulatory items.
  • Participates in regular meetings with Safety Department Leadership.
  • Performs SMS and regulatory compliance activities under the direction of the Manager Operations SMS and Director of Operations.
  • Supports the review, evaluation, and disposition of action items, corrective actions, and other Safety Assurance commitments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation or a related field; OR demonstrated capability with a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience.
  • Three (3) years of experience in formal safety management training or prior analyst experience within a commercial air carrier.
  • Working knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 and Safety Management System (SMS) principles and applications.
  • Working knowledge of regulations and standards governing commercial aviation (ICAO, FAA, NTSB, IATA IOSA) and those governing aviation safety, security, environmental, and employee health and safety.
  • Familiarity with risk modeling tools/approaches (Fault tree, fishbone, bowtie, ARMS, risk matrices, etc.).
  • Strong team player with the ability to be flexible, multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment and work well independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, logically and coherently at various levels within the organization.
  • High level of organization & attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of technology fundamentals and concepts (Microsoft technologies preferred).
  • Available for frequent overnight travel (20%).
  • Must be in possession of valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located.
  • Authorization to work in the US is required.
  • This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
