About the Role

As a Senior Engineering Manager at Parloa, you will own delivery and business outcomes for a large team, multiple teams, or a complex domain. This role requires a higher altitude and durability in communication, framing recommendations and trade-offs to senior leadership, and resolving complex cross-functional challenges. You will also focus on developing future leaders within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Own delivery across a multi-team or multi-domain scope, setting milestones, critical path, and quality gates.
  • Actively manage cross-team dependencies rather than just reporting on them.
  • Maintain a consistent bar for Definition of Done and quality across the scope.
  • Set strategy and roadmap collaboratively with Product, framing engineering investment in commercial terms.
  • Surface customer and market signals into the product plan.
  • Own the narrative for cross-functional initiatives, ensuring stakeholders are aligned.
  • Author durable artifacts like plans, RFCs, escalation memos, and postmortems.
  • Create conditions for coherent technical direction by partnering with Staff+ ICs.
  • Shape the technical agenda and own tech debt strategy across your scope.
  • Champion experimentation and prune low-signal bets early.
  • Codify and share learnings from failures.
  • Hold operational discipline to a consistent standard, including on-call, incident response, and postmortem practices.
  • Align reliability targets to product expectations and track cost/unit-economics trends.
  • Treat blockers as priority work and clear them hands-on across team boundaries.
  • Design the operating model for your scope, including roles, ownership, and operating rhythm.
  • Map dependencies and rebalance capacity for 3-6 month horizons.
  • Grow the next layer of leaders by hiring senior ICs and developing future managers.
  • Build a pipeline for hard-to-fill roles and identify/develop internal talent.
  • Drive calibration across your scope and coach peer managers on promotion standards.
  • Eliminate classes of blockers by fixing underlying systems when issues recur.

Requirements

  • Typically 10+ years in software engineering.
  • 4-6+ years of people leadership experience.
  • Proven experience owning outcomes for more than one team or a multi-team domain.
  • Credibility with senior leadership, able to frame trade-offs with VPs or CPOs.
  • Concise and decision-driving written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire, grow, and promote individuals.
  • Technical credibility to partner with Staff and Principal engineers on technical direction.
  • Commercial fluency, understanding scope costs and returns.
  • Comfortable handling performance edge cases, prioritization conflicts, and peer disagreements.
  • Pragmatic under pressure, with experience recovering stalled initiatives or unpredictable scopes.
