About the Role
As a Data Engineer on Fluent's Data Engineering team, you will leverage your Databricks expertise to build data products for Fluent's Audience Solutions business. These products translate raw signals into declared and modeled audiences for commercial teams and clients. You are a strong, efficient individual contributor skilled in designing engineering solutions, data modeling, and building architecture, with expertise in Databricks Lakehouse, Python, SQL, and Spark.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain tables, views, jobs/pipelines, and orchestration within Databricks, adhering to best practices.
- Elevate standards for testing, code repository, CI/CD, and naming conventions.
- Develop and maintain pipelines for creating and delivering syndicated and custom audience segments using declared and modeled methodologies.
- Support the delivery and performance reporting of audience segments on marketplaces like LiveRamp, TruAudience, and Lotame.
- Investigate and utilize Databricks capabilities for real-time processing and operational workloads, including Spark Structured Streaming and Lakeflow.
- Contribute to and maintain a high-quality codebase with data observability, metadata standards, and compliant data handling.
- Apply AI-assisted development practices using tools like Claude Code to accelerate development, testing, and documentation.
- Collaborate with Data Engineering, Data Science, and commercial stakeholders to define business requests and translate them into functional requirements.
- Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends within the Databricks ecosystem.
- Share knowledge through presentations and evangelize best practices.
- Communicate architecture, execution plans, releases, and training to empower internal teams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in computer science or related field.
- 4+ years of industry experience in Data Engineering.
- 2+ years of experience with the Databricks environment, including Jobs & Workflows, Notebooks, Unity Catalog, and Delta Lake.
- Strong foundation in database design, data structures, and algorithms.
- Experience using AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) in a modern engineering workflow.
- Familiarity with Databricks emerging technologies (Genie, Lakebase, AI/BI Dashboards, Databricks Apps) is a plus.
- Prior experience in digital marketing, ad-tech, media/advertising, or related fields is a plus.
- Familiarity with audience, identity, or consumer segmentation data is a plus.
- Experience with data marketplaces such as LiveRamp, TransUnion, and/or Lotame is a plus.
