About the Role

As a Family Navigator, you will make a powerful contribution to Westminster’s success by working with multi-agency teams as the first point of contact for families seeking advice and support at the Family Hub. You will proactively engage families who may not visit the Hub but could benefit from our services by organizing home visits, visiting schools, and working with GPs. You will act as a bridge between the community and our services, develop a deeper understanding of local needs, and identify opportunities to improve support. Your ultimate goal is to ensure families’ voices are heard and their members are empowered to develop confident, self-reliant, and independent lives, with a strong focus on safeguarding.

Responsibilities

  • Work with multi-agency teams of professionals as the first point of contact for families who come into the Family Hub for advice.
  • Take a proactive approach to engaging families who don’t visit the Hub but would benefit from support by organising home visits, visiting schools and working with GPs.
  • Act as a bridge between the community and our services.
  • Develop a better understanding of need and how services could be improved.
  • Build and maintain a detailed understanding of the services available.
  • Use a Whole Family approach to assessing needs.
  • Coordinate meetings with relevant networks of professionals.
  • Participate in the development of plans for families who need support.
  • Take a planned and structured approach to work.
  • Consult empathetically with family members before making referrals.
  • Ensure families’ voices are heard and their members are empowered to develop confident, self-reliant and independent lives.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safeguarding and follow relevant procedures when making referrals.
  • Undertake timely and accurate recording of work.
  • Participate in training, supervision, appraisal and own continuing development.

Requirements

  • Possess the skills to engage with parents and children from a wide range of backgrounds, including those who are hard to reach.
  • Have a good command of written and spoken English.
  • Have a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and Early Years Outcomes.
  • Have an appreciation of the needs of children and young people with SEND, and the processes used to ensure they receive appropriate levels of support.
  • Have a good awareness of the wider needs of parents, including their access to employment and the barriers which may prevent this.
  • Be capable of creating plans of action that identify positive outcomes for the families worked with.
  • Be a confident user of IT and the Microsoft suite of software.
  • Enhanced DBS Check required.

Skills

  • Working knowledge of another language spoken in our communities would be useful.
  • First level degree or relevant qualification relating to family support, health, education or social care would be desirable.

Salary/Compensations

  • £42,912 - £46,854 (part-time pro rata)
