About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and ambitious associate to join our growing market-leading media, entertainment and sports global team, based in London. The successful candidate will manage a broad practice of advisory and transactional matters, often with an international element. The role will suit someone who is ambitious, commercially minded, able to take initiative and who enjoys business development, looking to move to a collaborative, lean and energetic team.
Responsibilities
- Advise clients in the media, entertainment and sports sector on a range of commercial transactions, including sponsorship agreements, licensing arrangements, joint ventures and other complex commercial contracts.
- Draft bespoke commercial contracts and act for clients in negotiating and concluding those contracts.
- Work alongside other advisory, transactional and disputes colleagues on matters where there is a crossover.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships, providing pragmatic and strategic advice.
- Manage all client work allocated, ensuring timely progression and keeping clients apprised on progress and costs, while providing consistently excellent client service.
- Demonstrate excellent organisational skills to meet the demands of clients, external stakeholders and the business.
- Exercise high standards of client care in a professional and friendly manner.
- Participate in self-motivated business development and business development with the wider team.
- Keep up to date with legal developments and contribute to thought leadership within the team.
- Supervise and assist in the professional development of more junior team members.
Requirements
- Experience of commercial contracts is essential, ideally in a city, national or large regional or US law firm with a recognised practice in the field, or perhaps in a suitable practice focused in-house position.
- Ideally, the commercial contracts experience will be for clients in the Media, Entertainment and Sports sector.
- Ability to understand complex legal principles and apply them accordingly.
- Superior drafting skills, analytical skills and negotiation skills.
- A high level of oral and written communication, presentation and influencing skills with the ability to quickly establish relationships at all levels.
- Demonstrate ability to confidently interact with clients and actively seek new business development opportunities.
- A commercial acumen and pragmatic outlook.
- Ability to demonstrate a flexible and hands-on attitude, responding effectively to rapidly changing circumstances.
- Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with people at all levels.
- Excellent IT skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Demonstrate a positive attitude and be a role model for the team.
