About the Role
Right Side Up is seeking freelance UX/UI Designers specializing in design systems to help clients modernize their systems for a world where humans and AI tools build side by side. This role focuses on the intersection of design systems craft and AI fluency, requiring comfort with both Figma token architecture and configuring AI tooling connections.
Responsibilities
- Audit existing design systems for structural gaps, including tokens versus variables, component architecture, and documentation.
- Resolve foundational issues in naming, token structure, and variable setup to ensure clean translation into documentation and code.
- Build and maintain design system documentation covering components, patterns, and usage guidelines for AI-fluent workflows.
- Configure and maintain AI-tooling connections between design platforms and AI coding or design assistants.
- Extract and document institutional knowledge from designers and engineers into clear, actionable documentation.
- Establish or refine governance models, contribution workflows, and success metrics for design systems.
- Collaborate with design and engineering stakeholders, translating between the two disciplines.
- Stay current on evolving AI-assisted design and design-to-code workflows.
Requirements
- Strong experience in design systems, UX/UI design, or design engineering with foundational depth in tokens, variables, and component architecture.
- Hands-on fluency with AI-assisted design or coding tools and the technical comfort to configure AI-tooling connections.
- Strong written communication skills for documenting tribal knowledge.
- Comfortable working independently on defined, timeboxed engagements with light oversight.
- Adaptable to different company environments, including regulated or compliance-sensitive ones.
