About the Role
Future is seeking a primary lawyer in the US to support its global Legal and Governance team. This role involves a broad range of transactional, advisory, contentious, and corporate work across various business activities, requiring independent work with US stakeholders and collaboration with international colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Report into the Head of Legal.
- Provide practical, risk-based advice to guide commercial choices.
- Communicate clearly and directly, offering constructive feedback.
- Combine strategic advice with hands-on delivery to build an efficient legal department.
- Build effective working relationships across different locations and time zones.
- Organize competing demands effectively and keep stakeholders informed.
- Proactively develop knowledge of Future’s brands and commercial models.
- Operate autonomously as the primary lawyer advising the US business.
Requirements
- Authorization to provide in-house legal services in New York (NY Bar admission or Part 522 eligibility).
- Professional background operating effectively as primary legal counsel managing broad commercial matters.
- Experience drafting and negotiating commercial agreements (sales, licensing, technology, data, strategic partnerships).
- Background assisting sales and product teams with practical legal advice.
- Experience managing disputes and instructing external advisors.
- Translating legal issues into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Team-oriented approach to explaining US legal requirements globally.
- Improving internal legal processes or playbooks.
- Knowledge of intellectual property, privacy, AI, or digital platforms within a media, technology, or consumer-facing business.
- Familiarity with digital advertising models, corporate transactions, governance, or routine US compliance matters.
