About the Role

Oneida Health Hospital is seeking a full-time Registered Nurse (RN) for its Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU). This 10-hour daytime position involves preparing patients for surgery and caring for them during initial recovery, monitoring vital signs, managing pain, and watching for complications. The role reports to the Manager and/or Director of the Surgical Services Department. The ideal candidate will work independently and as part of a team, treating patients with kindness and consideration.

Responsibilities

• Utilize critical thinking, time management, and organizational skills to care for adult and pediatric patients immediately after surgery (Phase II).
• Apply in-depth knowledge of patient safety and care when assessing patients pre and post-surgery.
• Assess and treat patients' pain immediately post-surgery (Phase II) using different methods.
• Accurately document all pre-operative findings, lab results, and patient history in the EMR.
• Provide pre-operative care, including initiating IVs, confirming NPO status, verifying/preparing surgical sites, ensuring correct consent forms, reviewing medications/allergies, and educating patients/family members.
• Use keen observation skills to assess if immediate interventions/treatments are warranted (Pre and Phase II recovery).
• Remain calm and professional in crisis and emergent situations.
• Assure patients that they are our number one priority and that their safety matters.
