About the Role
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operational performance of the club, ensuring the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational excellence. You will lead and develop the Operations team, creating an exceptional environment for members while ensuring compliance, efficiency, and outstanding brand standards.
Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the Operations team, fostering a positive, high-performing culture focused on delivering exceptional member experiences.
- Ensure the club consistently delivers the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and presentation in line with Virgin Active Brand Standards.
- Take ownership of Health & Safety compliance, ensuring company policies, procedures, and statutory requirements are met at all times.
- Manage operational resources, staffing, suppliers, and budgets for efficient and cost-effective club operations.
- Monitor operational performance, report on key metrics, and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Build strong relationships across all departments to support collaboration and deliver an outstanding member journey.
- Lead Duty Manager shifts when required, providing visible leadership and ensuring smooth club operation.
- Drive a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous development through coaching, regular feedback, and performance management.
Requirements
- Previous experience in an Operations Manager or similar leadership role within leisure, hospitality, or another customer-focused environment.
- Proven experience leading, coaching, and developing high-performing teams.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation, operational compliance, and maintaining exceptional brand standards.
- Experience managing operational budgets, suppliers, staffing, and resources for efficient and cost-effective operations.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across departments.
- Passion for delivering exceptional member experiences through operational excellence.
- Flexible approach to working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
