About the Role
Wellcome Collection is seeking a Digital Editor for a 1-year fixed-term contract to cover maternity leave. The role involves ensuring the regular publication and delivery of digital content, attracting and developing new audiences, and deepening engagement through the website by commissioning and editing stories about collections, live programs, and themes.
Responsibilities
- Research, plan, and write editorial content, including articles, image galleries, photo essays, and interviews.
- Commission and edit content from writers.
- Develop and maintain a community of contacts for content research, commissioning, and coordination.
- Write and manage the production of functional site content.
- Support colleagues in producing and maintaining content related to the organization's work.
- Contribute to the editorial strategy to reach new and diverse audiences.
- Copyedit website content.
Requirements
- Experience in commissioning and editing content.
- Ability to generate and assess ideas and translate them into deliverable content.
- Familiarity with the basics of digital content strategy and design.
- Experience with collaborative practices like pair-writing.
- Proven track record of producing engaging, accurate content for diverse audiences.
- Strong ability to generate and evaluate ideas.
- Ability to make and articulate sound editorial decisions.
- Ability to work effectively within an editorial team.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to plan content schedules across short- and long-term timeframes.
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines.
- Highly literate with excellent written, oral, and presentation skills.
