About the Role

As a Product Development Technologist, you will manage the safety, legality, quality, product development, sustainability, and provenance aspects of the product life cycle, ensuring compliance with technical standards and policies across multiple categories using specialist knowledge. You will manage supplier/factory technical relationships and lead improvements in product and process, aiming to exceed customer expectations and create industry-leading products.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver compliant, safe, legal, and quality product assortments that are customer-focused, understanding and complying with all relevant product regulations and safety standards.
  • Set, maintain, and communicate product specifications and standards, interpreting designs and briefing new products.
  • Develop and implement the technical strategy into the category strategy, including lessons learned, compliance, ethical, technical, and sustainability requirements.
  • Review and approve product development against agreed standards.
  • Approve testing and certification for all legal and performance standards, including chemical compliance, and maintain accurate technical files.
  • Support the end-to-end product development process from concept to delivery to ensure quality products.
  • Assess product suitability, including performance, design, quality, safety, and functionality, ensuring the product is fit for purpose.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing suppliers' technical performance.
  • Conduct product insight, horizon scanning, innovation, competitor analysis, benchmarking, and maintain detailed knowledge of technical/legal requirements.
  • Drive continuous product improvement by analyzing quality performance, returns figures, reviews, customer voice data, escalated complaints, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and internal/external stakeholders to ensure product compliance and reduce faulty returns and customer complaints through failure analysis and root cause investigations.
  • Manage key raw material/sustainability data to ensure compliance with raw material targets.
  • Provide quality and technical contributions to product tenders and assortment reviews.

Requirements

  • Experienced in a technical role in retail or manufacturing typically covering product development, product testing & compliance, and supplier engagement.
  • Strong fitting and garment construction knowledge.
  • A degree or equivalent industry 'on the job' training in an appropriate discipline.

Skills

  • 3D fitting knowledge is desirable.

Salary/Compensations

  • Salary up to £60k depending on experience
  • £57,400.00 - £86,200.00 Annual
