About the Role

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a Department Manager to lead the Buildings Engineering Services team in Rochester, NY. This role involves advancing the built environment through mechanical engineering services for municipal, commercial, higher education, and public works agencies, focusing on designing and renovating buildings to optimize their use and ensure cost-effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Review and manage operations to ensure the quality of technical products.
  • Establish long-range objectives, goals, and plans for the assigned team.
  • Provide technical and management leadership to the assigned team.
  • Develop marketing programs in conjunction with discipline goals.
  • Advise and assist professionals in other groups when expert knowledge is required.
  • Manage activities to ensure adequate profit on all projects.
  • Review monthly productivity and labor hour utilization rates, reporting and adjusting as needed.
  • Assign projects to staff and schedule work.
  • Evaluate employee performance in accordance with company policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years in Mechanical Engineering design fields.
  • Professional Engineering license in New York and reciprocity with other states.
  • Previous industrial and academic project experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership across large groups of employees.
  • Ability to develop and maintain internal and external relationships that support the success of the Company.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effectively and efficiently, planning, organizing, and managing procedures, protocols, and/or staff to achieve desired outcomes for projects and programs.
  • Effective delegation abilities to design and engineering employees.
  • Strategic and outside-the-box thinking.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
