About the Role

The Program Director will oversee and manage programming, operations, fiscal matters, and staff supervision within the COMPASS/SONYC division. This role fosters a safe, caring, and enriching environment for participants, promoting creative, social, and academic development. The Director will also manage community outreach and ensure compliance with all relevant standards.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, manage, budget, purchase, plan, implement, and coordinate school-based After-school program, Holiday, and Summer Programs.
  • Plan and maintain the overall delivery of quality programming, including activities, operations, enrollment, and outreach.
  • Oversee program staff, operations, and services, ensuring compliance with directives.
  • Ensure efficient departmental workflow and meet service deliverables for 90 or more participants.
  • Conduct regular meetings with Program Supervisor and Assistant Program Director to review projects and address concerns.
  • Manage data entry, recordkeeping, and file maintenance in accordance with UAU, DYCD, and NYC Department of Health requirements.
  • Ensure all records are kept confidential and securely stored.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Develop and implement short and long-term goals for program success.
  • Collaborate with Fiscal, Administration, and Program Supervisor to manage the annual operational budget.
  • Develop and implement program-related forms and documents.
  • Create and maintain a well-organized, clean, safe, and attractive learning environment.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of assigned UAU classroom spaces and work areas.
  • Plan, organize, and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies, placing orders in a timely manner.
  • Ensure program activities comply with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and professional standards.
  • Oversee program operations to ensure compliance with UAU, NYC Department of Health, and DYCD policies and procedures.
  • Work with Human Resources on hiring, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, performance reviews, timecards, scheduling, terminations, and investigations.
  • Coordinate and manage required compliance trainings for staff.
  • Manage and oversee staff schedules.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with school administration, stakeholders, and community members.
  • Maintain open communication with parents, school administration, DYCD, and Administration.
  • Enforce all compliance and safety protocols.
  • Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

  • An associate’s degree in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation or related field, or a New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential or a School-Age Child Care Credential (SAC) or other Office-recognized credential specific to the school-age developmental period.
  • Candidates with a Bachelor's degree will be required to complete NYS School-Age Care (SAC Credentials) within 18 months.
  • 2+ years direct experience working with children less than 13 years of age.
  • 2+ years in a supervisory capacity in a childcare program or related field.
  • Obtain and continuously maintain all necessary security clearances.
  • Culturally competent with the ability to understand, be sensitive to, communicate with, and interact effectively with people across cultures.
  • Familiar with regulations and requirements set forth by DYCD, NYC Department of Education, NYC Department of Health, and aware of compliance requirements.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent employee rapport and community leadership.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer usage (Windows, Microsoft Suite, Google Apps).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to conduct and complete work independently.
  • Willingness to take initiative and be flexible.
