About the Role
FTI Consulting is seeking a Billing Specialist I to collaborate with Project Managers throughout the engagement lifecycle, focusing on ensuring timely and accurate client invoices and reducing administrative tasks for billable professionals.
Responsibilities
- Ensure contract terms are accurately captured in financial systems, including fee arrangements, rates, and soft costs.
- Verify that necessary approvals are documented and archived.
- Flag amendments to contract terms and obtain/archive supporting documentation.
- Document necessary information for billing, such as client contact details and e-billing system requirements.
- Archive information required for revenue recognition.
- Prepare and send invoices for retainers, fixed fees, or hourly engagements according to contract terms.
- Ensure accuracy of data in proforma/draft invoices, including billing rates, soft costs, and anticipated fees.
- Send draft invoices in the format requested by the Project Manager.
- Process write-downs/ups with proper approval.
- Input Project Manager invoice edits.
- Finalize and send invoices to clients, including e-billing systems, with Project Manager approval.
- Employ appropriate formatting for professional invoice presentation.
- Monitor bounce backs and troubleshoot issues.
- Archive all directions and approvals for control and audit purposes.
- Review assigned matter WIP and obtain Project Manager input for realization of overage or project fees exceeding contractual amounts.
- Record necessary WIP adjustments based on Project Manager input.
- Review unbilled projects for late time and re-adjust if necessary.
- Respond to inquiries from the revenue recognition team.
- Monitor aging A/R and assist Project Managers and collections analysts in collection efforts.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Requirements
- Associate’s college degree or commensurate work experience.
- 1+ years of billing experience.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.
- Familiarity with time-and-expense billing models and engagement-based invoicing.
- Travel required to clients and to FTI office(s).
- Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer on a full-time basis; this position does not provide visa sponsorship.
