About the Role

The Student Engagement Assistant will support the Project Connect Manager with administrative and event tasks for Retention Services. This role involves managing communications, assisting with outreach, and acting as a liaison between Project Connect and the SFSU campus to enhance student success and resource awareness.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the promotion of AS Scholarships through workshops and tabling, and supports students with the application process via 1:1 meetings.
  • Collaborates with AS Programs, student organizations, and campus departments, promoting Associated Students services and tracking student participation.
  • Updates the Project Connect Monthly Newsletter with announcements, resources, upcoming events, and student engagement opportunities.
  • Serves as a liaison for students and campus partners to share resources and services, providing timely and professional communication.
  • Supports outreach initiatives for resources such as AS scholarships, Book Loan, Gator Groceries, and other AS Program's services.
  • Coordinates Project Connect’s external event requests and schedules team presentations, tabling events, and workshop requests.
  • Participates in staff meetings and assists in preparing monthly reports to track program progress and student engagement outcomes.
  • Maintains the Project Connect resource table and provides a welcoming office environment to support student services and daily operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a student at SFSU currently enrolled in at least 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates.
  • Awareness of issues specific to under-represented communities.
  • Completion of a course in any department of the College Ethnic Studies pertaining to Educational Equity issues, Critical Thinking, Children and Youth Culture and/or Ethnic Studies Community Service Learning component preferred.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Prior experience in working with children/youth preferred.
  • Knowledge of SFSU campus, admissions, financial aid, student outreach services, EOP and other Recruitment programs and related services.
  • Prior experience in organizing and scheduling special events.
