About the Role

The AP Curriculum and Assessment Team collaborates to develop, manage, and deliver AP courses. AP provides college-level learning opportunities for high school students, ensuring curricula align with higher education expectations and disciplinary advancements. The team develops instructional resources and assessments, and strategically uses AI to enhance student access, instructional design, and assessment analysis. The Science department supports 10 courses within the AP portfolio.

Responsibilities

Preserve and improve the quality and validity of AP Program deliverables including the exam, course curriculum, and professional development content.
Manage item development from authoring to administration across multiple course titles.
Train and collaborate with subject-matter experts (SMEs), typically college professors and secondary school teachers.
Ethically and effectively integrate AI technologies in assessment creation and review, providing leadership and modeling for course experts.
Train SMEs on assessment development protocols.
Translate between academics and technical experts (psychometricians).
Collaborate to develop formative assessment materials and resources for AP Science/Physics teachers.
Serve as a point of contact for committees and communities of subject-matter experts.
Be responsible for the curriculum and assessment for AP Science/Physics.
Partner with other AP teams to further the strategic growth of AP Science/Physics globally.
Present, speak, and moderate dialogue with academic and membership audiences.
Serve as an assessment leader for AP Science/Physics, with primary responsibility for assessment development and final assessment approval.
Develop and review content, and provide final program sign-off on test forms.
Seamlessly move in and out of assessment workstreams across subjects, leveraging expertise about assessment, processes, and content domains.
Independently lead processes for authoring and revising assessment content, including training educator constituents.
Leverage generative AI to author and/or review assessment content to improve or make assessment processes and outputs more efficient.
Independently lead the development and management of assessment content (formative and summative) and scoring materials for AP Science/Physics through iterative review stages.
Independently lead the development of assessment forms for AP Science/Physics, ensuring alignment with approved curricula and test specifications.
Lead multiple face-to-face, weekend, and virtual meetings annually with the AP Science/Physics Test Development Committees.
Independently strategize and develop agendas and approaches for committee meetings to ensure high productivity.
Successfully adapt and pivot during meetings as needed and resolve all post-meeting item content edits.
Train and directly supervise Test Development Committee members in AP Science/Physics as content development contributors and reviewers.
Lead the successful scoring of student responses for AP Science/Physics Exams at the annual scoring event (AP Reading) in person and online.
Produce AP Reading publications materials for teacher and student use.
Plan all-year workflow for the AP Reading, ensuring all steps and post-Reading activities are accounted for and successfully executed.
Contribute to current research and best practices in assessment.
Engage regularly with AP Curriculum & Assessment colleagues to align on standards and shared principles.
Provide functional leadership of cross-subject assessment workstreams to ensure consistency and leverage efficiencies.
Serve as an expert resource for course team and leadership consultation.
Provide formal training and informal mentoring to other Course Experts within AP Science/Physics.
Develop strong efficiencies in item development through well-defined task models, training, processes, and effective use of generative AI.
Independently lead initiatives to refine and improve question task models and exam design in collaboration with AP Curriculum & Assessment leaders.
Monitor exam validity, security, reliability, fairness, and quality, as well as reader reliability for AP Physics exams.
Identify areas for improvement and independently lead and execute targeted initiatives.
Collaborate with psychometrics and AP Curriculum & Assessment staff to establish fair, reliable, and valid cut scores for AP Physics exams.
Train and support course experts in assessment development practices, including quality, validity, fairness, and use of generative AI.
Deepen course experts' understanding of the item and test development lifecycle and effective use of item authoring and item bank platforms.
Mentor team members in effectively facilitating test development committees and working with external stakeholders.
Refine and improve AP Science/Physics Course Framework to ensure clear learning outcomes aligned with strategic priorities.
Ensure alignment with college/disciplinary standards and expand the scope of reaching a broader audience of AP students.
Collaborate with AP teams to support the development of new products for AP Physics designed to address unmet teacher instructional needs.
Potentially develop prototypes, participate in small-scale market-testing, and create models for subsequent development.

Requirements

Master's degree in Physics or a directly related discipline, with knowledge of current trends in the discipline.
Expertise in Physics with at least 10 years of experience in standardized assessment development or related work.
Experience with digital assessment and teaching is preferred.
