About the Role
The Director, Brand Storytelling sets brand narrative, content and messaging strategies for clients, grounded in audience research, data analysis and insights. This role guides how narrative is brought to life across touchpoints, authors briefs, and evaluates deliverables to ensure content ecosystems are magnetic, engaging, and support business goals. The role is deeply social-first, utilizing ongoing audience insights from social listening, creative performance analysis, and community sentiment. This position will lead a team of creative strategists and subject-matter experts, and collaborate cross-functionally with creative, social, and media teams.
Responsibilities

- Build and maintain the throughline for each account as work develops.
- Develop messaging/social strategy frameworks by persona based on audience segmentation.
- Ensure all strategies are engaging and relevant to the target audience.
- Author or co-author briefs for creative, media, and social departments.
- Act as an orchestrator and curator across strategy, creative, media, social, and community.
- Provide critical feedback during the development process to ensure work delivers on strategic promise.
- Ensure the overall ecosystem vision is brought to life across paid, organic, earned, and owned channels.
- Build and lead a mixed team of full-time staff and freelance subject-matter experts.
- Recruit, brief, and evaluate freelance SMEs.
- Set direction without dictating execution, allowing collaborators room to bring their own craft.
- Bring a current understanding of how different marketing channels earn attention and shape storytelling strategy.
- Use creative performance analysis and social listening as ongoing inputs.
- Cultivate and maintain a sophisticated, diverse cultural reference set.
- Partner closely with social and community leads on community growth.
- Guide or brief creator content directly as needed.
Requirements
- 8+ years in storytelling, content strategy, or social-first brand strategy.

- Direct experience leading storytelling for new business pitches.
- A track record of turning audience research and insight into brand, social and content strategy.
- Experience recruiting, briefing, and managing freelance subject-matter experts or contractors.
- Personal experience authoring creative, social, and media briefs.
- A collaborative leadership style.
- A current, fluent point of view on paid, organic, social, community, content, and brand.
- Real social-first instincts: hands-on experience with community growth and creator content.
