About the Role

This role supports the Office of Court Administration by ensuring compliance with accessibility standards. The Specialist creates, updates, and remediates documents, establishes best practices, researches standards, and provides training and technical support to improve agency-wide accessibility.

Responsibilities

  • Creates and updates templates and master documents in PDF, Word, and other formats.
  • Ensures templates and master documents comply with accessibility standards.
  • Establishes and documents best practices for accessible content creation and remediation.
  • Remediates and supports the accessibility remediation of existing documents.
  • Recommends enterprise and system level processes and solutions to support efficient remediation and ongoing compliance.
  • Conducts research into accessibility documentation and best practices for authoring and development tools and platforms.
  • Provides coaching, guidance, and training to document authors, content creators, and developers on accessibility remediation.
  • Provides technical support to improve accessibility compliance across the Office of Court Administration.
  • Performs accessibility testing using manual and tool assisted methods, identifying applicable accessibility success criteria and best practices.
  • Communicates effectively with diverse teams including technical and non-technical staff, designers, developers, content authors, managers, purchasing staff, legal, and executive leadership.

Requirements

  • 5 years of experience with EIR accessibility and assistive technologies used by people with disabilities.
  • 5 years of experience using Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat to produce accessible documents and forms.
  • 3 years of experience with HTML and PDF tag structures, attributes, and properties relating to accessibility.
  • 2 years of experience training others to author accessible documents and forms.
  • 3 years of full-time experience in EIR, including the development, implementation, or interpretation of policies and procedures in a public and private agency.
  • 1 year of experience with automated remediation tools, document management integrations, and other system level accessibility solutions.
  • Knowledge of accessibility guidelines, standards, rules, and laws relating to electronic information resources for people with disabilities, including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Texas Government Code Section 2054.460, and Texas Administrative Code Chapters 206 and 213.
  • May be required to work outside normal business hours on weekends, evenings, and holidays as requested, with pre-approval coordinated through the Office of Court Administration.
