About the Role

Kids Help Phone (KHP) is seeking an Accountant & Payroll Administrator to play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with budgeting, ensuring compliance, and supporting payroll administration. This role is crucial for ensuring all young people in Canada can access mental health support.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation and review of monthly bank reconciliations, investigating and resolving reconciling items, and reviewing the work of junior accounting staff.
  • Investigate financial discrepancies and partner with internal stakeholders to resolve issues and provide guidance on financial processes.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments, and coordinate assigned month-end close activities.
  • Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations, analyze variances, and investigate discrepancies.
  • Monitor accounts payable processes, investigate exceptions, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure timely payment processing.
  • Review and reconcile corporate credit card transactions and identify policy compliance issues.
  • Maintain organized financial records and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with internal and external audit preparation by providing financial reports and documentation.
  • Support GST/HST filings and other tax-related requirements.
  • Assist with other accounting projects and duties as assigned, including process reviews and system enhancements.
  • Maintain central repository of vendor agreements and the vendor contract register.
  • Support procurement activities, including Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and vendor sourcing initiatives.
  • Provide backup support to the Accounts Payable Specialist as required.
  • Recommend improvements to internal processes.
  • Reconcile payroll, salaries, and employee benefit information.
  • Download, organize, and maintain payroll journal and reporting files.
  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll journal entries.
  • Run and file payroll timecard reports after each payroll cycle.
  • Maintain employee payroll documentation and electronic personnel files.
  • Update records for terminated employees.
  • Verify Records of Employment (ROEs) have been accepted by Service Canada through ADP.
  • Assist with other related payroll administration and compliance activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and general ledger reconciliations.
  • Experience using accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
  • High level of professionalism and commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing is considered an asset.
  • Enrollment in the CPA program is considered an asset.
