About the Role

The After School Program Assistant Director supports the Afterschool Program Director in creating a safe and nurturing environment for students. This role assists in educational activities and ensures the quality of care, while also being prepared to lead the program in the Director's absence. The position emphasizes teamwork, positive relationships, and adherence to licensing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Serve as After School Program Director in the absence of the Director, including supervising staff, participants, schedules, activities, snack, and attendance.
• Enforce licensing requirements, including student/teacher ratios, supervision, and reporting.
• Enforce Keep Safe policies and file incident reports.
• Support the After School Program Director with assigned tasks.
• Supervise and engage with children during program times.
• Develop and implement school-age program activities and curriculum.
• Establish a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for students.
• Manage classroom materials, cleanliness, and order.
• Encourage self-help and good hygiene through behavior modeling.
• Ensure smooth daily transitions for children.
• Follow all program policies and state regulations.
• Maintain a clean work environment.
• Utilize classroom assessment and evaluation tools.
• Communicate accidents, sicknesses, and incidents to the Program Director promptly.
• Complete and maintain professional development for continuous quality improvement.
• Maintain good and accurate record keeping using digital and paper filing systems.
• Follow all Salvation Army KeepSAfe policies.
• Respond professionally and timely to emails and requests.
• Communicate courteously with students, staff, parents, and volunteers.
• Attend assigned staff meetings and trainings and contribute actively.

Requirements

• Must understand and appreciate the mission of The Salvation Army.
• Experience working with school-aged children.
• High energy and ability to work well with others.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Understanding of child development.
• Infant/child and Adult CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within 90 days.
• Must clear full background check.
• Must provide health screening including a physical and TB result within the first 90 days.
• Willingness to support and/or lead faith-based kid’s activities and programming.
