About the Role
CBS Sports is seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented Associate Researcher to create and deliver in-depth, creative, and accurate information for studio and game broadcasts, and other departments. The ideal candidate will leverage deep sports knowledge, curiosity, and news judgment to support storytelling and partner with teammates on visual presentations across various sports.
Responsibilities
- Use deep sports knowledge and research techniques to generate and support ideas based on live sporting events, breaking news, and other sports developments.
- Contribute to informational packets including game data, statistical nuggets, analytical context, storylines, and ideas for on-screen elements.
- Conduct searches using statistical tools, databases, websites, social media, and other outlets to support storytelling and coverage for productions.
- Build relationships with producers, on-air talent, and graphics/video associates to ensure high-quality information.
- Maintain files of milestones, historical records, trends, story ideas, scheduled events, and relevant information about sports, conferences, teams, coaches, and players.
- Respond to relevant trends, developing storylines, and noteworthy performances in partnership with Research teammates before and during live game action.
- Communicate effectively with content creators to provide thorough, creative, and accurate statistical and storytelling information.
- Deliver real-time reactions to notable performances, significant plays, and developing on-field storylines from live games under limited supervision.
- Chart information for graphics, presenting complex data in an easy-to-digest manner with a focus on accuracy and priority storylines.
- Prepare general background/research material for other entities as needed.
- Assist Researchers and Senior Researchers with organizational tasks.
Requirements
- 0-3 years of experience.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred; current college students will be considered.
- Relevant educational or work experience in journalism, communications, or production fields is preferred.
- Experience working with numbers in any field.
- Experience in sports studio/broadcast environments, or other sports media fields, is a plus.
- Excellent working knowledge of and interest in multiple sports, especially NFL, college football, college basketball, golf, and soccer.
- Resourceful ability to conduct research with limited supervision.
- Passion for discovering and sharing new knowledge.
- Ability to thrive in a team-oriented environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and multi-tasking skills.
