About the Role

The Building System Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building systems and equipment. This role involves hands-on work across electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and life safety systems, ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Checks equipment, layout work, and makes reports and recommendations, acting in a lead hand function.
  • Performs general maintenance of buildings and building systems.
  • Participates in the installation, servicing, repair, and operation of electrical and mechanical equipment and systems, including AV systems.
  • Maintains building plumbing and drain systems.
  • Assists trade and service personnel to maintain various building systems.
  • Distributes, follows up, checks work, answers inquiries, and gives guidance as required.
  • Maintains building and yard electrical equipment.
  • Maintains and repairs office furniture, equipment, and materials.
  • Conducts and/or directs work in a manner that is sensitive to customer and public needs.
  • Supports Capital Project work.
  • Assists with the maintenance of various Life Safety Systems throughout the facilities.
  • Maintains stock of building supplies, monitors equipment, and maintains records.
  • Operates a vehicle requiring a class G license and associated equipment related to the position.

Requirements

  • A valid Red Seal certification with a high school diploma or a two (2) year college diploma with relevant demonstrated practical experience.
  • Valid Class G Ontario Driver’s License or higher in good standing.
  • Physically able to perform the essential duties in all weather conditions.
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and any other applicable legislation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a PC Windows environment and associated desktop software applications.
  • Complies with safety guidelines.
  • Provides timely and effective services. Builds credibility and trust with customers and treats them respectfully and professionally.
  • Keeps people informed, promotes team morale, safety, and productivity.
  • Follows policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the job, role, and accountabilities, and instills confidence in work knowledge and skill.
  • Takes into account all relevant information when making a decision.
  • Completes the assigned work; adapts to changing volumes and pace of work.
  • Work is well thought out and planned, and completed accurately.
  • Able to work well independently; requires limited supervision. Attends work on time, is available to perform the job and demonstrates flexibility when needed.
  • Works well in team environments and interacts effectively with others.

Education Level

  • High school diploma or a two (2) year college diploma

Salary/Compensations

  • $43.95 - $56.08 Hourly
